1875-S BF-14

Obverse 10

This die features a misplaced 1 low in the denticles below the date. The date also develops die cracks in later die states. The denticles appear weak on this die.

Low misplaced 1 and die cracks at date

The misplaced digit looks more like a thin wire in the denticles than a digit, and is weak like the surrounding denticles. The top of the misplaced digit is exactly the same length and shape as the top of the 1. The left curve downward into the denticles follows what would be the flag of the misplaced 1.

Date Position: M 3, 0.60 mm

Reverse I

This reverse die features a partially-filled mintmark that is somewhat low and to the left. The lower left serif seems to hang slightly below the rest of the mintmark.

The top of the S is even with the bottom of the second arrow feather barb.

Comments: Weak, fatigued denticles are the norm. This is the only use of these obverse and reverse dies.

Scarcity: A common die marriage. Rarity rating: R-1.
